Cornwell garners goalkeeper of the week honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association recently named William Smith senior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Scottsville, N.Y.) its goalkeeper of the week. The Herons moved to 6-1-3 on the season and 2-0-1 in UCAA play after recording a scoreless draw against Hamilton College.
A 2001 NSCAA All-American, Cornwell helped to extend the William Smith soccer team’s unbeaten streak to seven games with six saves against the Continentals. Making key saves down the stretch, Cornwell recorded her third shutout of the year and 20th of her career at William Smith. Her performance also lowered her season goals against average to .82 and increased her save percentage to .758.
The Herons return to action on Oct. 11, traveling to Skidmore for a 4 p.m. game and Union College on Oct. 12, at 2 p.m.
