GENEVA, N.Y.--Elizabeth Dedrick (Horseheads/Erin, N.Y.) will graduate from William Smith College in May, and she already knows where she will be next fall--furthering her work in women's studies at the University of South Florida. She applied for the one fellowship offered there at the prompting of Professor Betty Bayer, the director of Dedrick's honors thesis, and recently received word that the $10,000 fellowship and the accompanying tuition waver was hers.

Dedrick's work at the Colleges was no doubt the basis for the award. A psychology major, she recently completed an honors thesis titled "More Than Just Sex Talk: College Women's Negotiation of Mixed Messages." The project was designed to examine the ways in which college-aged women talk and think about their sexual activity, their sexual health, and their bodies in relation to those topics. Dedrick was also one of the organizers of the Valentine's Day reading of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues this year.

Dedrick was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during her junior year, is a member of Hai Timiai, the William Smith senior honor society, and is on the Dean's list. She is a member of the William Smith soccer team and, during her junior year, studied for a semester in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dedrick is the daughter of Alan Dedrick and the late Ann Dedrick.
