Five Herons collect All-State honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team continues to collect postseason awards, placing five players on the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association All-State team. The Herons were the only team to earn five spots on the 40-player squad.

Seniors Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) and Stephanie Leveille (Ossining/Ossining, N.Y.), sophomores Steph Gridley (Auburn/Auburn, N.Y.) and Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.), and first-year Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Canastota, N.Y.) all received recognition from the NYSWCAA coaches.

he 2003 ECAC Northeast Tournament Most Valuable Player, Perrigo led all scorers with nine goals and three assists. She finishes her career ranked third on the career assists list (25) and fifth in career goals (37) and points (99). A two-time first-team All-UCAA honoree, Perrigo has been a clutch performer all season, scoring seven game-winners, including the goal that led the Herons to the ECAC Northeast title.

Leveille closed out her four years on the soccer team with a strong season, tallying six goals and one assists as the Herons’ third leading scorer. Selected to the UCAA All-Tournament team, she started every game this season and only missed four during her career.

A second-team All-UCAA selection, Gridley was second on the team in points with six goals and five assists. She recorded game-winning goals against Clarkson, No. 18 Nazareth, and Skidmore, and assisted on the game-winner in a 1-0 win over 20th-ranked Denison.

Hamilton anchored a young backline that featured a first-year, two sophomores, and a junior. A physical presence for the Herons in the middle, she helped William Smith post a 0.79 goals against average and a league best 12 shutouts. Hamilton scored her first career goal in a win over Skidmore and led all defenders with four points on a goal and two assists.

The UCAA Rookie of the Year, Dudley was outstanding in goal for the Herons, posting a conference best 10 shutouts and a 0.81 goals against average. She was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week five times and garnered the Defensive Player of the Week honor once. Selected to the UCAA All-Tournament team, Dudley’s 108 saves is second in the conference while her .857 save percentage ranks third.

William Smith finished the season 15-5-2 overall and captured the ECAC Northeast Championship with a 4-1 victory over Rochester. Recording her 20th consecutive winning season, Head Coach Aliceann Wilber has led the Herons to at least 15 victories in a season 12 times and in five of the past seven years.
