Mary Guarino

May 20, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Soccer Assistant Coach Mary Guarino will remove the coaching hat for a little while this summer and step back inside the lines as a member of the Rochester Reign of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. In their first year in the league, the Reign is comprised of former Women’s United Soccer Association, W-League, and top Division I college players.

A 2000 graduate of Boston College, Guarino spent the past season with the Boston Renegades of the W-League. The 2002 W-Leauge Champs posted a 19-1-1 record, including a 3-1 victory over the Charlotte Lady Eagles in the championship match.

During her playing career at B.C., Guarino led the Eagles in scoring as a season captain, netting a team-high 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points. A 1999 second-team All-Big East selection, she also earned NSCAA All-Northeast honors. Guarino totaled 33 goals, 21 assists, and 87 points during her four-year career at Boston College.

The Reign opens the regular season on May 23, traveling to play the Rhode Island Rays at 2 p.m., at South Kingstown High School. They make their home debut the following weekend on May 29, hosting the Steel City Sparks at 3 p.m. All Reign home games will be played at East Rochester High School.
