GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College tallied four second-half goals to defeat visiting Clarkson University 4-0 in women’s UCAA soccer action this evening on Cozzens Field. The Herons received goals from four different players in the second session to earn their fourth consecutive victory.

Despite dominating play in the opening 45 minutes, William Smith (7-2-1, 4-0 UCAA) went into halftime knotted at zero with the Golden Knights. The second stanza proved to be a different story as the Herons broke loose four times. Sophomore midfielder Steph Gridley (Auburn/Auburn, N.Y.) started the scoring in the 66th minute with a perfect shot into the right upper ninety from the left corner of the box.

Three minutes later first-year Heather Phillip (Southern Cayuga/King Ferry, N.Y.) was fouled by Clarkson keeper Lauren Arrendondo (Saddle River Day/Allendale, N.J.) in the box for a penalty kick. Fellow classmate Stephanie Bishop (F.D. Roosevelt/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) stepped up to take the kick and slipped it into the left corner to make the score 2-0.

The Herons put the game way for good in the 80th minute when Alexandra Rieben’s (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) shot from the top of the box flew over the head of Arrendondo. Six minutes later Phillip got a goal of her own, finishing a Danielle Cornett (Potsdam/Potsdam, N.Y.) cross.

Rookie goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Conastota, N.Y.) made two stops for her fourth shutout of the season, while Arrendondo pulled in nine saves for the Golden Knights.

The Herons look to continue their four game win streak on Oct. 11, when they host St. Lawrence at 2 p.m., on Cozzens Field.
