GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College soccer team topped Hamilton College, 1-0, for its seventh straight win. The shutout is the seventh of the season for the Herons.

Defense controlled the day as the two teams played a scoreless first half. William Smith finally broke through in the 50th minute as senior midfielder Liz Dedrick (Horseheads/Erin, N.Y.) set up junior forward Maria Paoff's (East Syracuse-Minoa/East Syracuse, N.Y.) third goal of the season. The Continentals never threatened, taking just one shot on goal, while the Herons were limited to just six shots on the afternoon.

In goal, senior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) made one save for her sixth shutout of the season. Senior goalie Brenna Chiaputti (Kingswood-Oxford/Bolton, Conn.) stopped five shots for Hamilton.

The Herons (10-1-0, 4-0 UCAA) are back in action on Oct. 12, when they host St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m.
