Amy Pendergast

November 7, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior Amy Pendergast (East Syracuse-Minoa/East Syracuse, N.Y.) was recently named to the 2002 Verizon College Division Women’s Soccer Academic All-District I second team. Voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), honored student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, a starter or important reserve, and carry a minimum 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

A two-time second-team All-UCAA defender, Pendergast has anchored a Heron defense that has allowed only 11 goals this season and just three in the last 10 games. A psychology major, Pendergast is a four-year starter who has helped limit opponents to just 51 goals in 77 games, while leading William Smith to three NCAA Tournament bids, advancing to the quarterfinal round in each of the past two seasons.

The Herons (13-3-2, 5-1-1 UCAA) begin their quest for their 16th consecutive NCAA Tournament when they travel to Union College for the inaugural UCAA Tournament. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason. William Smith will match up against St. Lawrence on Nov. 9, at 1:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the UCAA Championship game at 1 p.m., on Nov. 10.
