Stachura named Player of the Week

October 2, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association named William Smith College junior forward Alyson Stachura (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford) its Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 30. She scored the game-winner in each of the Herons two league wins last weekend.

Against 12th-ranked Union College on Sept. 28, Stachura's header off a corner kick was the deciding goal in William Smith's 1-0 win over the Dutchwomen. On Sept. 29, the junior netted the Herons' first two goals in the team's 5-0 rout of Skidmore College. Stachura leads William Smith in scoring with seven goals and one assist for 15 points. Saturday's game was the forward's second two-goal game of the season and the third of her career.

William Smith (8-1-0, 3-0-0 UCAA) returns to action on Oct. 3, when they travel to Nazareth for a 4 p.m. contest. The Herons edged the Golden Flyers 1-0 in Geneva last season.
