William Smith soccer tabbed fourth in preseason poll

August 22, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team will begin the new season ranked fourth in the 2003 NSCAA/adidas Division III preseason poll. Two-time national champion, Ohio Wesleyan University sits atop the poll, while Messiah College and Trinity University round out the top three.

The Herons are coming off of a 17-4-3 season in which they advanced to the NCAA Semifinals before losing to eventual national champion Ohio Wesleyan. The graduation of five starters from that squad will leave some empty slots to fill, but the return of 19 letterwinners and six starters will help the William Smith in its quest for an encore performance in 2003.

The Herons open their season on Sept. 3, hosting Geneseo on Cozzens Field at 4 p.m.
