GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith squash team collected both the Liberty League Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week Awards this afternoon. Senior Kinsey Cruice (The Lawrenceville School/Darien, Conn.) earned the former, while first-year Katie Compton (Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) received the latter.

It is the fourth time this season Herons have earned both awards in the same week.

Playing in the No. 1 position, Cruice defeated Hamilton’s Madeline Sullivan 3-0 (9-7, 9-5, 9-3) to lead William Smith to its ninth win of the season. Cruice improves her overall record to 10-5 this season, 27-14 for her career.

Playing in the No. 2 position for the first time this season, Compton defeated Hamilton’s Betsy McDermott 3-0 (9-0, 9-2, 9-2). Compton evened her record for the season at 3-3.

The team’s 9-0 triumph over the Continentals ensured the Herons (9-6) will finish with a .500 record or above for the sixth time in eight varsity seasons. William Smith will close out the season at the College Squash Association Team Championships, Feb. 24-26, at Harvard.
