GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Squash Head Coach Chip Fishback and first-year Maddie Brooks (Westminster School/New Canaan, Conn.) led the way for the Herons on the 2005 All-Liberty League Teams, earning Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors as voted by the league’s coaches.
Senior Sarah Coffin (St. George’s School/Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and sophomore Katie Hendricks (The Shipley School/Haverford, Pa.) also garnered recognition, capturing first-team honors, while sophomore Shaila Pandole (Jai Hind College/Mumbai, India) and Brooks were honorable mention selections.

In his seventh season at the helm, Fishback guided William Smith to a record-breaking season in 2004-05. Under his guidance, the Herons captured their first Liberty League squash title and posted a program-best 15-5 record, the most wins for William Smith in its brief history. Qualifying for the Kurtz Cup, the B Division of the Howe Cup, for the first time in William Smith’s seven seasons, the Herons finished a program-best 15th in the Howe Cup. William Smith also closed out the year with its highest final season ranking of 15th.

Anchoring the middle of the William Smith lineup all season, Brooks posted a team-best 15-5 record, including a perfect 4-0 mark against conference foes. Playing primarily in the No. 5 slot, she dropped just one game at the Liberty League Championships to help the Herons earn their first conference crown. She was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week four times this season.

William Smith's No. 2 player all year long, Coffin posted a career-best 15-5 overall record along with Brooks and a 3-1 mark against conference foes. She was selected as the Liberty League Performer of the Week honors after cruising to four victories at the Wesleyan Tournament. Also a member of the William Smith golf and tennis teams, Coffin closed out her Heron squash career with a 52-21 record (.712).

Playing in the top spot all year for the Herons, Hendricks posted a 10-6 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Liberty League action to help William Smith capture its first Liberty League title. She earned Liberty League Performer of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 31, after posting four wins at the Mt. Holyoke Tournament. She closed out the year with a 2-1 record at the Howe Cup to guide the Herons to their best finish ever at the team championships.

Pandole played in the top third of the lineup all season, seeing time in each of the top three positions. Missing the latter part of the year due to injury, Pandole posted a solid 8-3 record, including a 3-1 mark against Liberty League opponents. The 2003-04 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Pandole has put together a 17-10 record over the past two seasons.
