GENEVA, N.Y.—Two members of the William Smith College squash team were recognized by the conference office for their roles in the Herons’ second consecutive Liberty League Championship. Junior Shaila Pandole (Jai Hind College/Mumbai, India) and first-year Lori Stump (Shady Side Academy/Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned Liberty League Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
Playing at No. 3, Pandole went 3-0 in the Liberty League Tournament, which was hosted by St. Lawrence on Nov. 19-20. She defeated Vassar’s Teddy Weiss (9-2, 9-4, 9-0) and Hamilton’s Betsy McDermott (9-6, 9-5, 9-0) in straight sets before earning a hard fought four set victory over St. Lawrence’s Erin Lacy (10-9, 8-10, 9-1, 9-6). Pandole is 4-0 this season.
Stump, who competed at No. 4, also completed the conference tournament with an unblemished mark of 3-0. She ousted Vassar’s Amalia Sax-Bolder (9-7, 9-3, 9-1) and Hamilton’s Casey Cook (9-2, 9-3, 9-2) in straight sets. Stump rallied from one-game down to defeat St. Lawrence’s Lauren Burd in four sets (7-9, 9-3, 9-2. 9-2) and improve her record to 4-0 on the season.
William Smith (4-0) returns to action Dec. 3-4 when the Herons participate in the Wesleyan Tournament.
