GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior William Smith College squash players Helen Grassi (Episcopal/Chevy Chase, Md.) and Katie Hendricks (The Shipley School/Haverford, Pa.) were honored at the Annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on May 1.

Hendricks was presented with the Irene Graves Harer ’28 Squash Award, which goes to the team’s most valuable player. A three-time All-Liberty League selection and this season’s Liberty League Player of the Year, Hendricks led the Herons with a 10-10 mark at the No. 1 spot, including a 5-1 record against league opponents. She played at No.1 all four years, and leaves William Smith with a 29-20 career record. Hendricks also earned a spot on the league’s All-Academic Team this year.

Grassi went home with the Squash Coach’s Award. A strong senior leader and dedicated teammate, she posted a 13-8 individual record this winter, including a 10-2 mark at the No. 5 spot. Grassi was tabbed the Liberty League Performer of the Week once, after defeating opponents from Amherst, George Washington, Colby, and Connecticut College at the Mt. Holyoke Tournament.

The Herons closed out the 2006-07 season with a 13-8 overall record, including four wins over nationally ranked teams, and captured their second straight Walker Cup.
