Herons place 3rd in inaugural UCAA Squash Championship November 23, 2003 CANTON, N.Y.--Fielding a very young squad, the William Smith squash team finished third in the four-team field of the inaugural Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championship. The host St. Lawrence Saints won the title. Featuring three first-years and four sophomores in the nine starting positions, the Herons (2-2) lost their opening match to St. Lawrence on Saturday, 9-0. The Saints did not surrender a single point to the opposition this weekend, winning all three of its matches 9-0. On Sunday, Vassar outlasted William Smith 6-3, but the Herons rebounded in the afternoon with an impresive 9-0 win over Hamilton. Competing this weekend for the Herons in positions one through nine were first-year Katie Hendricks (The Shippley School/Haverford, Pa.), first-year Shaila Pandole (Jai Mind College/Mumbai, India), junior Sarah Coffin (St. George's School/Bryn Mawr, Pa.), sophomore Kinsey Cruice (The Lawrenceville School/Darien, Conn.), first-year Helen Grassi (Episcopal/Chevy Chase, Md.), junior Alicia Sands (Miss Porters School/Farmington, Conn.), sophomore Lee Lee Robinson (St. Paul's School/East Norwich, N.Y.), sophomore Shelley Ryan (Portsmouth Abbey School/Allamunchy, N.J.), and sophomore Ashley Lademann (Sacred Heart Academy/Garden City, N.Y.).
