CANTON, N.Y.—William Smith College first-year Shaila Pandole (Jai Hind College/Mumbai, India) and junior Sarah Coffin (St. George’s School/Bryn Mawr, Pa.) recently competed in the Holleran Cup, the second division of the College Squash Association Individual Championships.

The Herons top player this season, Pandole opened the weekend losing to Dartmouth’s Avery Eyre 3-0 (9-4, 9-0, 9-0). The No. 2 player for much of the year Coffin had similar luck, falling to three-seed Frances McNeely 3-0 (9-2, 9-6, 9-3) in her first match.

Coffin bounced back in the consolation bracket to beat Ashley Kilgore of Smith 3-0 (9-6, 9-5, 9-4) before losing in the quarterfinals to Emilie Slack 3-0 (9-0, 9-6, 9-1). Slack also handed Pandole her second loss, 3-0 (9-3, 9-2, 9-2), of the tournament in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Pandole closes out her rookie year with a 9-5 record, while Coffin posted one of the team’s best records at 11-6.

The Herons finished the season with an 8-6 overall record, capturing third place in the Walker Cup—the College Squash Association Team Championships.
