GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming & diving team and sophomore diver Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) recently were recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for academic excellence.

As a team, the Herons earned a place among the CSCAA’s All-Academic Teams by exceeding the minimum 2.80 team grade point average requirement. During the 2003-04 season, William Smith posted a 3.14 team GPA.

Costanza became the Herons’ first diver to capture any kind of All-American honors after she finished 13th on the 1-meter board at the NCAA Championships to earn honorable mention All-American status. She finished 17th in the 3-meter competition the following day.

The defending New York State and Liberty League (formerly the UCAA) 1-meter champion, Costanza broke three of William Smith’s four school diving records in 2003-04.

For an individual to be named to the CSCAA All-Academic team, the student-athlete must maintain a 3.5 GPA and earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championship meet.
