CLINTON, N.Y.—William Smith College junior diver Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) captured her second consecutive Liberty League 1-meter diving crown this past weekend to help the Herons take sixth at the Liberty League Championships hosted by Hamilton College. Due to a communication problem—diving was held at Colgate—the 1-meter competition results were not released until today.

Totaling 364.70 points on 10 dives, Costanza edged out Sarah Steuer of Union by 4.60 points to earn her second conference championship. On the 3-meter board, Costanza established yet another school record for 11 dives, breaking her previous best with a score of 398.90.

For the year, Costanza has won five times, setting a new school record for six dives on 3-meter and reaching the NCAA qualifying mark once in the 1-meter competition.

Also turning in a strong performance at the meet was senior Becky Grossman (Mercersburg Academy/Penfield, N.Y.). Grossman grabbed the runner-up spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.61. In the 100 butterfly race, she touched in at 1:01.53 for fourth place of 32 competitors.

Anchoring the 200 free relay team of Jenny Fowler (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.), Megan Mosher (Livonia/Conesus, N.Y.), and Meredith Eppers (Orchard Park/Orchard Park, N.Y.), Grossman clocked a 25.17 final leg to help the Herons take third. She also helped the 200 medley relay team of Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.), Fowler, and Mosher to fourth place.

The Herons hit the water again on Jan. 18, hosting RIT in Bristol Pool at 7 p.m.
