Costanza, Cutter honored by Liberty League
November 14, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team had two student-athletes honored this afternoon when the Liberty League announced its first round of weekly awards. Senior Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) and first-year Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.) were named the conference’s Diver of the Week and the Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively.
William Smith has competed in three meets this season and Costanza has posted three NCAA Championships qualifying scores. Against Wells, she set a school and pool record on the 1-meter board (11 dives), carding a score of 407.5. Against the Saxons, Costanza won on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Her 1-meter score of 246.75 (6 dives) was also a qualifying score. She has received an invitation to the NCAA Championships in each of the past two seasons, earning All-America honors in 2004.
Cutter won (or helped a relay win) the first seven events she entered as a Heron. Last week against Wells, she won the 200 individual medley (2:31.18) and the 200 breaststroke (2:51.11) and swam a leg on the victorious 400 medley relay. Against Alfred, Cutter swam a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay before her streak ended. She placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.71, -0.19) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:31.32).
The Herons are off until Dec. 2-3, when they will compete in the Liberty League Championships, co-hosted by Rensselaer and Union.
