ROCHESTER, N.Y.—William Smith senior diver Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd-Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) exceeded the NCAA qualifying standard on the 3-meter board with a winning score of 261.30 during a dual meet against the University of Rochester. It was her first 3-meter qualifying score of the season, following five qualifying performances on the 1-meter board.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Championships, a student-athlete must surpass the qualifying standard twice in a dual meet (6 dives) or once during a championship meet (10 dives) and then submit a video tape of those qualifying performances to the selection committee for consideration.

First-year Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.) emerged from the pool a winner in the 50-yard freestyle, touching in at 25.56, edging out senior Kate Feller (Avon/Avon, N.Y.) by 0.17.

William Smith also got an individual win from junior Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.) in the 100 backstroke (1:05.97).

Rochester won the meet 152-88.

William Smith returns to action at 7 p.m. on Jan. 31, when the Herons travel to Ithaca.
