SYRACUSE, N.Y.—William Smith senior diver Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) won the second New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) 1-meter championship of her career today, establishing a new record for 11 dives with a score of 406.9. She also won the 1-meter title in 2004.

The Herons are in eighth place in the 15-team standings through the first six events of the meet. The championship continues Friday and wraps up on Saturday at Nottingham High School.

Costanza has been dominant this season, posting eight NCAA Championship qualifying scores and riding a five-event winning streak into the state championships. Her 1-meter performance gives her nine qualifying scores and gives her the association and championship meet record on the 1-meter board. The 2005-06 season is the first in which divers have completed 11 dives during championship meets. Previously, divers were only required to perform 10 dives.

In swimming action, William Smith had two entries in the evening finals. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Kate Feller (Avon/Avon, N.Y.), junior Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.), sophomore Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Conesus, N.Y.), and first-year Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.) finished third in a time of 1:40.39.

Feller also reached the finals as an individual in the 50 free. She placed seventh in 25.35. Mosher actually posted a faster time, 25.21, but finished second in the consolation finals, 10th overall, due to her time in the preliminaries.

Complete results for the event can be accessed via the William Smith swimming and diving schedule Web page.
