Fit to be tied: Herons, Bengals even in pool

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College swimming and diving team opened the 2006-07 season with a tie against visiting Buffalo State. The Bengals won seven of the afternoon’s 13 events, but the Herons managed to forge a 121-121 draw.
Senior Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.) was a double winner for William Smith, capturing the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.97 and the 500 free in 5:36.58. The Herons also got victories from sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.) in the 50 free; first-year Amanda Daley (Cohasset/Cohasset, Mass.) in the 200 butterfly; junior Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) in the 100 free; and first-year Laura Patterson (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.) in the 200 breaststroke.
The tie is the first for the William Smith swimming and diving team in at least 16 years.
The Herons are back in the water on Nov. 7, when they host Wells College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
