Herons derails Express, 104-74

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team picked up its first victory of the young season, defeating Wells College 104-74. The Herons won seven of the meet's 14 events and took the top three places in four events.
Junior Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.43) and swan a leg of the victorious 200 medley relay. First-year Laura Paterson captured the 100 breaststroke (1:15.12) and also swam a leg of the 200 medley relay. First-year Jessica Cook (New Paltz/New Paltz, N.Y.) and sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.) swam the other two legs of the 200 medley relay.
William Smith (1-0-1) also got victories from first-year Amanda Daley (Cohasset/Cohasset, N.Y.) in the 1,000 free, first-year Rachel Johnson (Emma Willard School/Clifton Park, N.Y.) in the 50 free, first-year Charlotte Scott (Columbia/Maplewood, N.J.) in the 200 individual medley, and the 200 free relay team of junior Lindsey Dickens (Naples/Canandaigua, N.Y.), first-year Katie Cummins (Indian Lake/Sabael, N.Y.), first-year Allison Sperling (Ogdnesburg Free Academy/Ogdensburg, N.Y.), and first-year Steph Stahl (La Plata/La Plata, Md.).
The Herons are back in the water on Nov. 11, when they travel to Alfred University for a 1 p.m. meet.
