November 11, 2006

ALFRED, N.Y. —The William Smith College swimming and diving team defeated host Alfred University 126-115 this afternoon. The win improves the Herons’ dual meet record to 2-0-1.

Sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va. ) was a double winner for William Smith, capturing the 50-yard freestyle in 26.17 and tying teammate junior Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) in the 100 free with a time of 58.03. Cutter capped the meet by swimming a leg on the victorious 400 free relay team along with Mosher, first-year Rachel Johnson (Emma Willard School/Clifton Park, N.Y.) and first-year Charlotte Scott (Columbia/Maplewood, N.J.).

The Herons won the meet’s opening event, the 400 medley relay, behind the all-first-year team of Jessica Cook (New Paltz/New Paltz, N.Y.), Laura Patterson (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.), Amanda Daley (Cohasset/Cohasset, N.Y.), and Steph Stahl (La Plata/La Plata, Md.).

Daley also captured first place in the 200 butterfly (2:39.05). Cook and Scott placed first and second, respectively, in the 200 backstroke, while Patterson won the 200 breaststroke (2:41.81).

William Smith is back in the pool on Dec. 1-2, when the Herons travel to Rochester for the Liberty League Championships.
