Herons split at RPI Invitational

TROY, N.Y.--William Smith senior Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) won the 1-meter diving compeition and finished second on the 3-meter board as the Herons finished fourth in the Rensselaer Invitational this afternoon. William Smith split its dual meets on the afternoon, defeating Oneonta 124-117, while falling to RPI 142-100.
Costanza won on the 1-meter board with a score of 244.55, 0.45 shy of the NCAA Championship qualifying standard, the first time this season she has not produced a qualifying score on that board. She was more than 32 points better than the runner up. Costanza was just nine points off the pace on the 3-meter board with a score of 203.75.
Senior Kate Feller (Avon/Avon, N.Y.) and sophomore Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Conesus, N.Y.) both finished in the top eight of the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 free. Feller was seventh in both events (26.50, 58.61), while Mosher was fifth in the 50 free (26.05) and eighth in the 100 (58.66).
Junior Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.) also finished in the top eight in two events for William Smith. She was eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:23.03) and the 500 free (5:44.83).
The Herons are back in action on Jan. 25, when they travel to Rochester. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
