GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) was named the Liberty League Co-Diver of the Week this afternoon by the conference office. She has won five consecutive diving events, including four last week.
Costanza won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in a dual meet at Ithaca and again during the Skidmore Sprint Invitational. Against the Bombers on Jan. 31, she produced an NCAA Championship qualifying score on the 1-meter board (255.2). In Saratoga Springs on Feb. 4, Costanza recorded another qualifying score, this time on the 3-meter board (261.8). She has eight NCAA Championship qualifying scores to her credit this season.
This is the second time this season Costanza has been named the League’s Diver of the Week. She has represented William Smith in the NCAA Diving Championships in each of the past two seasons and earned honorable mention All-American honors in 2004.
Costanza will find out on Feb. 24, if she is invited to compete in the NCAA Championship meet, March 9-11, in Minneapolis. A national committee of diving coaches will review tape of the divers who exceeded the NCAA qualifying standard during the season and invite 22 to the championships.
