Herons finish 2nd in Skidmore Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team finished second out of three teams in the Skidmore Spring Invitational this afternoon. Vassar was the overall winner with 255 points, while the Herons edged Skidmore 192-191 for the second spot.
Junior Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) captured the Herons' lone victory. She won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.82. She also took second in the 50 fly (29.27).
Including Mosher's, William Smith posted nine second place finishes. Sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude's/Richmond, Va.) earned three of them, touching in second in the 50 breaststroke (34.31), the 50 free (26.43), and the 100 free (58.22). First-year Jessica Cook (New Paltz/New Paltz, N.Y.) was the runner-up in the 50 backstroke (31.33) and the 100 backstoke (1:06.28).
Sophomore diver Sarah Gummoe (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) was second on the 3-meter board (172.40), while first-year Laura Patterson (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.) placed in the 100 breaststoke (1:14.35). The Heron 200 free relay accounted for the final second place finish.
William Smith is back in the pool, Feb. 14-17, when the Herons compete in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in Syracuse, N.Y.
