Herons swim Ithaca in finale

January 31, 2007

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team hosted its final dual meet of the season at Bristol Pool against Ithaca College tonight. The Bombers spoiled the final home meet for the Herons' two seniors, stealing a 138-97 victory.

William Smith got victories from senior Charlotte McIntosh (Blair Academy/Reading, Pa.), sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude/Richmond, Va.), first-year Rachel Forster (Fair Haven Union/Castleton, Vt.), and sophomore Sarah Gummoe (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.). McIntosh won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.66, touching in just ahead of Ithaca's Jovanna Hart (2:02.73). Cutter captured the 50 free in 25.83. The diving tandem of Forster (155.56) and Gummoe (200.20) won the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions, respectively.

The Bombers won both relays and got individual wins from seven different swimmers.

William Smith is back in the pool on Feb. 3, when the Herons compete in the Skidmore Invitational.
