GENEVA, N.Y.—The University of Rochester swam past William Smith College 166-76 in a dual meet in Bristol Pool tonight. The Yellowjackets improve to 6-2, while the Herons slip to 4-3-1.
Rochester won both the 200-yard medley and 200 freestyle relays. Senior Kari Joyce (University/Tuscon, Ariz.) and senior Karen Gromer (Cedar Park/Round Rock, Texas) were double winners for the Yellowjackets. Joyce took the 200 individual medley (2:18.27) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.88), while Gromer triumphed in the 500 free (5:21.25) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.82).
Rochester also got individual wins from first-year Elizabeth Cavagnaro (Bradford/Bradford, Pa.) in the 1,000 free, senior Michele Gruen (Hamden Hall Country Day/Hamden, Conn.) in the 200 free, senior Kara Nash (Holland Patent/Barneveld, N.Y.) on the 1-meter board, and sophomore Nancy Tremblay (Indian River/Evans Mills, N.Y.) on the 3-meter board.
Sophomore Lynn Cutter (St. Gertrude's/Richmond, Va.) was a double winner for William Smith, capturing the 50 free in 25.73 (more than a half second ahead of the runner-up) and the 100 free in 56.58. Junior Megan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) also earned a victory for William Smith, taking the 100 butterfly in 1:05.10.
The Herons will return to the pool for their final dual meet of the season at 7 p.m. on Jan. 30, when they host Ithaca College.
