March 13, 2004

ST. LOUIS—William Smith College sophomore Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) closed out her 2003-04 season with a 17th place finish in the 3-meter competition at the 2004 NCAA Diving Championships this afternoon. Coming off a 13th place finish on the 1-meter board earlier in the week, Costanza earned 313.40 points for 11 dives, just three points out of 16th place.

The first Heron diver to earn honorable mention All-American honors, Costanza has continued her quick rise to the top this season after her record-setting rookie year, breaking two more records and capturing a pair of 1-meter titles.

In December, she won the 1-meter competition at the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championship meet and collected co-Diver of the Meet honors with a third place finish on the 3-meter board.

In the final competition of the regular season, Costanza repeated her 1-meter performance in the New York State Championship meet. She also eclipsed her own school record of 390.96 for 11 dives in the 3-meter board twice. Costanza earned a season-high score of 398.00 in the preliminary round and finished third overall with a score of 391.20.

Costanza owns the William Smith records on both boards for six dives and the 3-meter mark for 11 dives.
