ROCHESTER, N.Y.--The William Smith swimming and diving team finished fourth in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championships this weekend. The highlight of the meet for the Herons was a championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomores Jenny Fowler (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) and Becky Grossman (Mercersburg Academy/Penfield, N.Y.) and first-years Robin Coggins (Rumson-Fair Haven/Rumson, N.Y.) and Kate Feller (Avon/Avon, N.Y.) captured the meet's first event with a championship time of 1:43.86, two tenths of a second ahead of second place Rochester.

First-year Sarah Costanza (Gwynedd Mercy/Ambler, Pa.) captured second place in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 310.00. She placed fourth in the 3-meter event.

William Smith made a strong showing in the 50 free. Fowler, Grossman, and Coggins finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Grossman also made the finals of the 100 and 200 butterfly, capturing fourth place in the former and sixth in the latter.

The Herons' 200 medley relay team of Coggins, Fowler, Grossman, and junior Lisbeth Engst (Christian Brothers Academy/Fabius, N.Y.) placed sixth, while the 400 free relay team of Fowler, Feller, and first-years Adrienne Brockway (New Hartford/New Hartford, N.Y.) and Charlotte Hoffmann (Greenwich/Greenwich, Conn.) matched that performance.

Hoffman also finished seventh in the grueling 1,650 free.

Engst reached the finals of the 100 breaststroke, finishing in eighth place.
