SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.--The William Smith swimming and diving team captured first place in seven events on its way to winning the Skidmore Sprint Invitational. The Herons scored 251 points on the day, beating runner-up Vassar by 59.

Individual double winners for William Smith were junior Becky Grossman and sophomore diver Sarah Costanza. Costanza earned her eighth and ninth victories of the season, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.

Also victorious for William Smith was senior Lisbeth Engst in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.51, while junior Jenny Fowler grabbed a win in the 400 individual medley outracing the nearest opponent by nearly two seconds.

The Herons' 200 medley relay of Charlotte McIntosh, Kate Feller, Engst, and Grossman started the meet off in good fashion, winning the race by nearly three seconds.

The Herons return to the water on Feb. 4, hosting Ithaca at 7 p.m., in the final meet of the year in Bristol Pool.
