Herons split in home tri-meet

GENEVA, N.Y.–The William Smith College swimming and diving team opened its home schedule this afternoon with a tri-meet against Alfred University and Canisius College. The Herons defeated the Golden Griffins 122.5-111.5, but fell to the Saxons 124-106.

William Smith produced a pair of three-time winners, senior Kelly VanGorden (Palmyra-Macedon/Geneva, N.Y.) and first-year Jenny Fowler (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.). VanGorden won the 200-yard individual medley and the 200 breaststroke, while Fowler won the 50 freestyle and 100 free. The pair combined with junior Liz Aumand (Massena/Massena, N.Y.) and sophomore Alison LeBarge (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius, N.Y.) to capture the 400 medley relay. Aumand was a double winner, capturing the 200 butterfly.

William Smith will be back in Bristol Pool on Nov. 17, when the Herons host Wells College at 1 p.m.
