OXFORD, Ohio –For the second time in as many years William Smith College senior Kelly VanGorden (Palmyra-Macedon/Geneva, N.Y.) closes the season as an All-American. On Friday, the Heron swimmer finished ninth overall and first in the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke, breaking her own school with a time of 1:06.10 and earning honorable mention All-America honors at the Division III NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. VanGorden closed out competition this afternoon, finishing 29th in the preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.48.

Friday’s performance marked the third All-American swim by VanGorden in two seasons. Last March, at the NCAA Championships in Buffalo, she set a William Smith record in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke to qualify for the finals. She finished seventh to capture her first All-American award. The following day she broke her own 200 breaststroke record in the preliminaries to qualify for the consolation finals. In the finals she lowered that mark with a time of 2:26.35 to earn her second All-American award.

VanGorden swam four NCAA “B” cut times this season. She finishes her career as the Heron record holder in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke, the 100 IM, and the 200 IM. The senior qualified for the NCAA Championships in all four of her seasons at William Smith.
