VanGorden, Herons earn academic honors

GENEVA, N.Y.– The William Smith College swimming and diving team was recently honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, as one of the top academic teams during the 2000-01 season. Under the tutelage of Head Coach Kelly Kisner, the Herons finished the academic year with a combined grade point average of 3.18.

Senior Kelly VanGorden (Palmyra-Macedon/Geneva, N.Y.) was honored for her academic work individually, earning a spot on the CSCAA's All-Academic team. In addition to her success in the classroom, she enjoyed a sensational junior season, in which she set four school records. The school record holder in the 50-yard breaststroke, the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke, the 100 individual medley, and the 200 individual medley.

A two-time All-American, VanGorden has competed in the NCAA Championship meet in each of the last two seasons.

The William Smith swimming & diving team opens the home portion of its 2001-02 schedule on Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. The Herons will tangle with Alfred and Canisius in Bristol Pool.
