VanGorden swims B cut time

November 17, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.–The William Smith College swimming and diving team posted its second dual meet victory of the season this afternoon with a 109-78 victory over visiting Wells College. Senior Kelly VanGorden (Palmyra-Macedon/Geneva, N.Y.) produced the highlight of the meet, producing an NCAA Championship qualifying B time.

VanGorden (Palmyra-Macedon/Geneva, N.Y.) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.58, a B qualifying time. The NCAA accepts all automatic or A qualifiers, and completes the championship field with the top B qualifiers. VanGorden also won the 50 freestyle.

Senior Shannon LeBeau (Jamesville-DeWitt/Jamesville, N.Y.) also won a pair of individual events, capturing the 1,000 free and the 100 backstroke.

VanGorden and LeBeau teamed up with sophomore Alison LaBarge (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius, N.Y.) and first-year Devin Lovell (Valley/Chester, Conn.) to win the 200 free relay.

William Smith will be back in the pool on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, at Rensselaer for the UCAA Championship Meet.
