GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 7-2 at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. The Herons, who are ranked 20th in the Northeast Region, improve to 12-5, while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-11.

William Smith won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles frays to reach the 12-win plateau for the eighth time in the 35-season history of the program. Heron first-year Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.) topped junior Tessa Baker (Worcester Academy/Worcester, Mass.) 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles to improve her team-leading singles record to 13-6.

William Smith seniors Molly Patterson (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Laura Maier (Lancaster Country Day/Reading, Pa.) each posted her 12th singles win of the season to keep pace with Ware.

The Herons play their final dual match of the season at 1 p.m. on April 10, when they travel to Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers.
