Patterson, Newbury earn Liberty League tennis honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior Molly Patterson (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) earned first-team singles All-Liberty League Women’s Tennis honors. Patterson and junior Karen Newbury (Maine-Endwell/Johnson City, N.Y.) received honorable mention as a doubles team.
Patterson posted a 7-7 record in singles play this fall, including a 6-4 mark at first singles in dual matches. She gets stronger the longer a match lasts, boasting a 4-0 mark this fall in three-set matches. Over the past three and a half seasons, Patterson has compiled a 52-29 (.642) record in singles play. She also earned first-team all-conference honors in 2003.
Patterson and Newbury posted a 9-7 doubles record this fall, including a 6-5 mark at first doubles in dual matches. Over the past three years, they have teamed up for a 25-16 (.610) mark.
William Smith was 7-4 in dual matches during the fall season. The Herons finished fourth in the Liberty League Tournament, up one place from 2003.
