William Smith tennis falls to Skidmore, 6-3

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team suffered its first setback of the spring, falling to Skidmore 6-3 this afternoon. The Herons fall to 11-5 overall, while the Thoroughbreds improve to 5-5.
Senior Laura Maier (Lancaster Country Day/Reading, Pa.) and first-year Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.) garnered William Smith’s lone victory in doubles with an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 spot.
In singles action, it was Ware and fellow first-year Erinn Cain (Palmyra-Macedon/Palmyra, N.Y.) garnering wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Ware upended Skidmore’s Kate Hugo in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-5), pushing her win streak to five matches. Cainn dropped Kyra Travis in two sets (6-4, 6-4) to improve to 3-1 this season.
The Herons return to action on April 6, hosting Rochester at 4 p.m.
