GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team earned a 7-2 victory over Ithaca College at the Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Herons, who extended their winning streak to seven, came into the match ranked 25th in the Northeast region, one spot behind the Bombers.

William Smith (10-5) got off to a fast start, sweeping doubles play. First-year Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) posted an impressive straight set victory at first singles. She came into the match ranked sixth in the region, while her opponent, first-year Caitlin Castle (Communication Arts/San Antonio, Texas), was ranked eighth. The result wasn’t as close as the rankings might suggest. Rauck posted her 10th consecutive singles win, 7-5, 6-2.

The Herons also got singles wins from sophomore Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.), junior Meghan Kelley (Norwell/Norwell, Mass.), and first-year Katie Compton (Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6, respectively.

First-year Alyssa Jaffe (Pascack Hills/Montvale, N.J.) and junior Erin Chapman (Queensbury/Queensbury, N.Y.) secured Ithaca’s (9-7) two points with wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

William Smith is back in action when the Herons host the College of New Jersey on March 26. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
