Heron tennis breezes past Brockport

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith tennis team swept visiting SUNY Brockport 9-0 at the windy HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. The Herons, ranked 25th regionally, improve to 11-6 overall.
William Smith captured all three doubles matches, winning 8-1 at No. 1 and No. 2, while at No. 3, sophomore Erinn Cain (Pal-Mac/Palmyra, N.Y.) and senior Heidi Ambrozaitis (Burr Burton/Manchester, Vt.) prevailed 8-6.
In singles play, first-year Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) extended her winning streak to 12 straight matches with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Junior Meghan Kelley (Norwell/Norwell, Mass.), sophomore Cory Turner (Canterbury School/Ridgefield, Conn.), Cain, and Ambrozaitis also picked up straight set wins at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6. Sophomore Katie Campbell (Winchester/Winchester, Mass.) won at No. 4 when her opponent retired with an injury.
The Herons are back in action on April 9, when they host Nazareth at 1 p.m.
