Rauck, Damon advance in ITA play

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith tennis players survived the first day of play in the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championship. Sophomore Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) and first-year Shari Damon (Honeoye Falls-Lima/Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) advanced to the second day of competion in the annual tournament.
Rauck, the No. 1 seed in the singles draw, posted a 6-2, 6-0 first round win over Ithaca's Erin Chapman and a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Plattsburgh's Tiara Garrow. Rauck will face the tournament's 10th seed, Rochester's Colleen Cross, on Saturday for a berth in the quarterfinals.
Rauck teamed with Damon in the doubles draw. The pair won their first round match 8-0 and reached the quarterfinals with an 8-2 triumph. They will face the doubles championship's No. 1 seed on Saturday.
Heron sophomore Sam Schraeter (Rye/Rye, N.Y.) won her first round singles match 6-3, 6-4 over Geneseo's Krissy Feikert, but fell in the second round to the No. 4 seed Dana Lim of SUNY New Paltz, 6-0, 6-1.
