March 14, 2006
HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The William Smith College tennis team improved to 2-0 on its annual spring break trip, whitewashing Westminster 9-0. Earlier this week, the Herons blanked Nebraska Wesleyan by the identical score.
In singles competition, sophomore Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.), junior Meghan Kelley (Norwell/Norwell, Mass.), sophomore Cory Turner (Canterbury School/Ridgefield, Conn.), sophomore Katie Campbell (Winchester/Winchester, Mass.), and first-year Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) registered decisive victories.
The Herons continued their stellar play in doubles as first-year Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) and Ware breezed to an 8-0 win at the No. 1, while sophomore Erinn Cain (Pal-Mac/Palmyra, N.Y.) and Kelly earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
The Lady Titans defaulted at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
William Smith returns to action at noon on March 17, when the Herons complete their spring trip against Heidelberg College.
