Herons’ tennis victorious in spring opener

HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The William Smith tennis team opened its spring slate with a 9-0 whitewashing of Nebraska Wesleyan. First-year Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio), sophomore Tara Ware (Avon/Avon, Conn.), junior Meghan Kelley (Norwell/Norwell, Mass.), sophomore Cory Turner (Canterbury School/Ridgefield, Conn.), and sophomore Katie Campbell (Winchester/Winchester, Mass.) won their singles matches in straight sets, while first-year Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) was victorious in three sets.

William Smith continued its domination in doubles as Rauck and Ware won 8-3 at No. 1, Campbell and Turner earned an 8-4 victory at No. 2, and sophomore Erinn Cain (Pal-Mac/Palmyra, N.Y.) and Kelly combined to win 8-5 at No. 3.

William Smith returns to action at 11 a.m. on March 14, as the Herons square off against Westminster in Hilton Head, S.C.
