Heron tennis seeded fourth at NYSWCAA Championships

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team will compete this weekend, Oct 18-20, at the New York State Collegiate Atheltic Association Championships hosted by Cornell University. The Herons, sporting a 6-3 record received the fourth seed behind Vassar, Skidmore, and Hamilton Colleges.

William Smith has been the hottest team on campus, winning six of its first seven matches of the fall season. The Herons enter the NYSWCAA after a fourth place finish at the UCAA Championships and having won 22 of their last 28 matches, dating back to the spring of 2000.

At the 2001 NYSWCAA Championships, the Herons finished fifth out of 16 teams with 20 points. Sophomores Molly Patterson (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Laura Maier (Lancaster Day School/Reading, Pa.) both reached the semi-finals of their respective brackets, while the duo of Brighde Dougherty (Manasquan/Sea Girt, N.J.) and Diana Harmann (St. Joseph’s/Southport, Conn.) advanced to the semifinals in second doubles.

The NYSWCAA Championships will be the Herons final contest of 2002.
