GENEVA, N.Y.—For the sixth consecutive year William Smith College will host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Championships. More than 70 student-athletes from 19 colleges and universities across the region will compete in the three-day event, beginning at 9 a.m. on Sept. 26.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring the best players from the Northeast region to our campus and make the most of our terrific facilities,” Head Coach Chip Fishback said.

Senior All-American Joanna Toke (Henrietta/Henrietta, N.Y.) of the University of Rochester is the top seed in the singles draw, while senior Lauren Stellato (Friends Academy/Old Westbury, N.Y.) of Union College will be the second seed.

The runner-up at the 2001 NCAA Championships, Toke is aiming to win her third ITA Regional Championship after capturing the title in 2001 and 2002. Stellato is coming off a successful 2002 season that saw her capture the New York State first singles title and advance to the semifinals in ITA Regional Championships before losing to the eventual champion Lindsey Schantz of Hamilton College.

Junior Molly Patterson (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) will be the highest seed for the Herons in the tournament as one of the top 12 players in the draw.

Results throughout the weekend can be found on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges web page at: http://campus.hws.edu/sportspdf/2003_ITA_Regional_Brackets.pdf.
