Nazareth tops William Smith 6-3 March 27, 2004 GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith tennis team was defeated by visiting Nazareth today in the Bristol Field House, 6-3. The loss drops the Herons to 9-6, while the Golden Flyers improve to 10-3. William Smith proved strong enough in the top of its order, winning first doubles and first and second singles, but it was Nazareth's depth that proved to be the differnce as the Golden Flyers won second and third doubles and third through sixth singles. In the top singles match, William Smith sophomore Karen Newbury (Maine-Endwell/Johnson City, N.Y.) defeated junior Andrea Gaddis (Spencerport/Rochester, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-4 to improve her singles record to a team-best 15-6. The Herons return to action at 1 p.m., on April 3, at Skidmore. |
