GENEVA, N.Y.—The New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association recently announced its 2002 All-State Tennis teams. Among those honored are William Smith College’s Molly Patterson (Mountain Lakes/Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Diana Harmann (St. Joseph’s/Northport, Conn.).

A sophomore, Patterson was named to the singles second team after compiling a 10-5 record this fall. The No. 2 seeded player in the 2002 NYSWCAA Championships second singles flight, she advanced to the championship match before falling to the flight’s top seed. In one and a half seasons at William Smith, Patterson boasts a 25-14 (.641) record in singles play.

A junior, Harmann earned singles honorable mention after posting a 10-7 record this fall as the Herons’ top singles player. In the 2002 ITA Northeast Regional Tournament, she rebounded from a first round loss to win the consolation bracket with five straight wins, including a gutsy three-set victory in the championship match. Harmann sports a 47-21 (.691) career singles record.

Since the spring of 2000, the William Smith tennis team has won 22 of its past 28 matches. The Herons completed the fall season with a 6-3 record and finished tied for third in the NYSWCAA Championships and fourth in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championship.
